Culture at JavaCove

JavaCove Beach Hotel has been established with the support of the surrounding coastal village community and the friendly locals have always welcomed us and our guests into their area with genuine hospitality.  Interaction with the locals is all part of the JavaCove experience and our guests always take back warm memories of their time with the people as well as the place.

Although located on the island of Java, the province of West Java is referred to as 'Sunda' by the local people who identify themselves as 'Sundanese'.  Our guests often comment that the Sundanese are some of the most easy going, friendly people they've met.  They live a simple coastal lifestyle and have a deep commitment to the peaceful elements of their Islamic faith.

Although the village is a pretty casual spot and the locals are relaxed about having Westerners in the area, we suggest that it's respectful to be conscious of how you dress.  Bikinis and boardshorts are fine on the beach, but not the most appropriate gear for getting around the village areas!

One thing worth mentioning here is the concept of Indonesian 'rubber time'.  Time isn't really prioritized in Indo and it can often be frustrating for Westerners that nothing ever happens in a hurry in Indonesia.  Travelling may take longer than expected, meals may seem to take forever to be served, transport may not turn up on time, etc.  To the locals time is plentiful so none of this is a drama!  To avoid letting it get to you it's a good idea to swing your perspective their way and just go with it!  By the end of your stay you'll probably wish we all viewed time the way they do...

IS JAVACOVE BEACH HOTEL FOR YOU?
Please keep in mind that JavaCove Beach Hotel is located in a remote area in the ‘developing nation’ of Indonesia where the standard of tourism facilities and services may not be to the level that exists in Bali and 'Western' countries.  It's also worth noting that there's always a possibility that things may not go as smoothly as planned in a country such as Indonesia. In these cases wfind it's best to view it as all part of the experience of travelling to these special places located off the usual mainstream tourist trails.  We believe the rewards offered by this style of travel are high, but we urge you to consider whether it is suitable for you before booking.
